Dynamic French Riviera and Provence shore excursion with time to wander and enjoy
Getting off a cruise ship tender at 7AM in Cannes , our group got a great greeting from the guides from Provence Riviera. We wanted it all and they gave it. First we drove the Croisette in Cannes learning the history of the film festival .WE visualized Cannes in season viewing the grand hotels and restaurants. Moving onto the lower Corrniche we drove happily to overlooks to enjoy the yachts and ocean mansions below. WE arrived in Nice to the opening markets. We had plenty of time to wander the fruit and flower markets and shop for Socca, the traditional chickpea pancake in Nice. Some sought out the churches to visit. others were clothes shopping. Time also to visit the Promenade along the sea. Then we gathered into the vans and drove along the length of the Promenade of Nice with its beach and extravagant hotels. Made secure after the 2016 massacre, the Promenade made the sea so close. The guides pointed out relevant sites from the past centuries. Next we drove the mid Corniche to Monaco. This time we had more time than expected to wander, watch the changing of the guard at the Palace , visit the cathedral, and decide on a lunch . WE did it all. This was the most time I had to see Monaco. Then it was off to Monte Carlo along the Grand Prix route. Hair pin turns included. Again we were released to tour the Monte Carlo gardens, peak into the casino or shop the elegant shops. Each time our guide drivers dropped us off in the center of things and disappeared to park the vans elsewhere. WE did not suffer walking long distances to parking lots. Last came our best visit, St Paul de Vence. This old hill top town of artists feels remote from the world. WE wandered its narrow alleys and pedestrian paths to see the galleries, churches and views from the top. Lots of time to stop for a cappuchino or wine. I opted for gelati. This group had opted to drop the hill town of Eze because of the vertical climb. The guides would have included if chosen. Instead we drove back to Cannes by the upper freeway and stopped for photos at overlooks. The group of 16 rated this their best excursion as it was well paced and quite reasonably priced for the content at 60 Euros per person. The guides were knowledegable and courteous. Of my more than 10 excursions on this cruise this was the best tour company .They delivered everything they promised.
